Organizer Part-Time Temporary Position with an end date of August 15, 2026 with an opportunity to renew. Based in Memphis or Jackson. Reports to the West TN Lead Organizer.

The Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is a statewide, immigrant and refugee-led collaboration. Our mission is to build power, amplify our voices, and organize communities to advocate for our rights. Our vision is a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee where people of all nationalities, immigration statuses, and racial identities can belong and thrive.

ABOUT THE POSITION

TIRRC is seeking an ally organizer in West TN to work with our advocacy and organizing teams as we build a broad coalition to defend immigrant justice and our multiracial democracy. As TIRRC continues to expand our organizing efforts in West TN, we see organizing allies of immigrant communities and building relationships with non-immigration-focused community organizations as essential to advancing and advocating for pro-immigrant/refugee policies. We define ‘ally’ as any individual that is not a first-, second-, or third-generation immigrant/refugee but is supportive of immigrant/refugee communities. Allies to our movement may also identify as LGBTQIA+ individuals and/or non-immigrant or refugee individuals who identify as Black, brown, Indigenous, or other people of color. Ideal candidates for this role are established leaders within ally communities in West TN, with strong relationships and deep networks, who have strong communication and organizational skills, and are passionate about increasing community support for immigrant and refugee rights.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Community Education 

• Lead community education campaigns to ensure that ally communities are accurately informed of local and state policy that impacts immigrant & refugee communities;
• Lead outreach efforts to ensure that activated allies and other pro-immigrant community members have local opportunities for advocacy training, political education, and volunteering.

Community Organizing

• Hold individual and group meetings to deepen relationships, identify community members who can support local immigrant advocacy efforts, and organize allies & community members to engage in pro-immigrant activities
• Build a base of engaged allies from diverse West TN communities who can inform and lead TIRRC’s advocacy campaigns; Organizational Support
• Assist TIRRC at community events and with other organizations as needed;
• Ensure all data is maintained in the organizational database;
• Participate in significant organizational events as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Belief in TIRRC’s mission and experience with social justice; 
• Demonstrated ability to be highly organized and maintain accountability and strong communication with others in collaborative projects;
• Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, and to build and maintain relationships with partners;
• Demonstrated ability and comfort with public speaking;
• Experience with community organizing and outreach preferred;
• Availability to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends, and travel statewide;
• Fluency in English required and fluency or working proficiency in another language spoken by TIRRC’s constituencies preferred;
• Must have reliable transportation.

WAGE AND BENEFITS: Hourly Rate: $23/hour for 15-30 hours/week 

Benefits: All employees receive 24/7 access to an Employee Assistance Program. In addition, part-time employees receive paid sick time commensurate with the number of hours worked.
