Job Title: Part-Time Immigrant and Refugee Student Tutor: The Aloe Family, Nashville, TN

Job Summary:

The Aloe Family, a nonprofit organization based in Nashville, TN, is seeking a Part-Time Homework Help Tutor to provide academic support to students in need. The Homework Help Tutor will be responsible for leading volunteers and assisting students with their homework and academic assignments during designated tutoring times.

May 18 - August 10: 2:30 to 5:30 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays at Rolling Hills.

June 22nd - 25th hours will differ (1 - 5pm, Monday - Thursday)

August 11th and on: 2:30 - 5:30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays at Rolling Hills plus 5:00pm to 6:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Plaza Mariachi.

Filling in once a month on Saturday or Sunday for weekend programs is also required, as well as 1.5 hours a week in program prep.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead volunteers in one-on-one or small group tutoring to students in various subjects, including but not limited to math, science, English, and social studies.
  • Assist students with understanding homework assignments, concepts, and materials.
  • Record and submit accurate attendance records of students and volunteers.
  • Prepare daily activities (this involves making copies of worksheets or pulling out games that are provided)
  • Conduct Volunteer orientation for new volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment conducive to academic success.
  • Collaborate with other tutors and staff to ensure consistent support and coordination of services.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Background in education, nonprofit, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • College degree, or pursuit of college degree in progress.
  • Prior experience in tutoring or teaching, particularly in homework help and academic support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and varying skill levels.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed academically.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to meeting scheduled tutoring times.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Spanish Language skills preferred

Schedule and Compensation:

  • 8-10 hours per week
  • *16 hours the week of summer camp (June 22 - 25, 1 - 5pm)
  • $17 / hr.
