With broken hearts, we share the unexpected passing of our dear Sophia Aponte, MTSU FUTURO Student.

Sophia was a radiant presence in our FUTURO familia—full of warmth, love, and kindness. She brought joy, compassion, and connection to everything she touched.

Her loss leaves a deep void in our hearts. We remember Sophia not only for her bright spirit but for the way she showed up for others—always generous, always full of love. Daniela Rodriguez, a friend of Sophia’s and FUTURO Student Leader says, “I am deeply saddened by the unexpected passing of Sophia. She was a powerful ally and a tireless advocate for underrepresented communities, always showing up and using her voice to uplift others. Her dedication and compassion will never be forgotten.”

Now is the time for our FUTURO familia to wrap our arms around Sophia's family so they may provide her the dignified farewell she deserves.
